Faith, honestly

Sixty-two of the strongest objections to belief, stated in full and answered from within Islamic thought.

Most Muslims who start to doubt do not leave their questions at home. They meet them in a lecture hall, in a debate clip, in a family tragedy, or in a community that fell short of its own teaching. Usually the objection arrives in its sharpest form and the reply, if there is one, arrives thin.

Faith, honestly takes the opposite course. It sets out sixty-two full-length objections, plus twelve shorter arguments in an appendix, and states each in the strongest form its defenders would give it. It then asks what is true in the objection, sets out what Islamic texts and scholarship say in reply, and says plainly what remains difficult. Each chapter ends by laying out where the argument stands and leaving the weighing to you.

The objections run through ten areas: whether belief in God is rational; evil, suffering and divine hiddenness; science, human origins and the mind; religious diversity and revelation; the Qur'an; Muhammad, hadith and prophetic authority; divine decree, judgment and the afterlife; Islamic law, government and coercion; women, family and sexuality; and the lived experience of Muslim communities, including abuse, hypocrisy and disillusionment. A separate section makes the positive case for belief in God and for Islam in the author's own voice.

The book uses Qur'anic verses, hadith with their collections and numbers, classical commentary, and modern scholarship, with footnotes and a bibliography so that a reader can check the sources. Where classical scholars disagreed, the disagreement is shown. Where a minority or reformist reading is offered, the book says what it costs. Arabic and philosophical terms are explained where they first appear, and a glossary collects them.

It is written first for Muslim readers, especially younger readers facing serious challenges from philosophy, history, science, online argument or personal pain. It also suits any reader who wants to see how contemporary Islamic thought handles its strongest critics without retreating into defensive apologetics or dismissive polemic.

Faith, honestly will not make every difficulty disappear, and it does not pretend to. It gives each question a serious reply, shows where that reply is strong and where it is contested, and trusts the reader with the rest.
